Since 1999 LONCAR & ASSOCIATES has been representing people living with diabetes against drug manufacturers seeking to take advantage of diabetics by failing to disclose the side effects of their medications. All medications have side effects, and drug manufacturers are required to be honest with patients about the medications they are selling.
LONCAR & ASSOCIATES has been investigating cases involving pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer secondary to the diabetes medication, Victoza, for some time. The FDA’s March 14, 2013 announcement that it is investigating a wide number of diabetes medications including Byetta, and Januvia/Janumet along with Victoza for links to pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer comes as no surprise.
The pancreas produces and secrets many different hormones that impact its ability to produce insulin. If the body does not produce enough insulin or if the body does not respond to the insulin a person produces, they are considered diabetic.

Victoza Causes Pancreatic Cancer
GLP-1 is the hormone that tells the pancreas to make insulin. The hormone GLP-1 can be negatively affected by an enzyme referred to as DPP -4. Byetta, Victoza and Januvia/Janumet seek to either increase the hormone GLP-1 or to inhibit the production of the enzyme DPP-4. To perform these functions, the medications will disrupt the GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas. It is believed that the interruption of the GLP-1 receptors (located in the pancreatic islets and exocrine duct cells within the pancreas) inflames the pancreas leading to acute pancreatitis. Further, many scientists believe most pancreatic cancers begin in the pancreatic islets and exocrine ducts.
