His approach is rooted in the Golden Rule, and has become a cornerstone of the firm’s identity, consistently shaping case strategy, client interaction, and firm-wide decisions.
Legal Career Beginnings
Clay began his legal career after clerking for the Texas Supreme Court, an experience that gave him firsthand insight into the workings of the state’s highest judicial authority. In 1989, he launched his personal injury practice, determined to advocate for those harmed by negligence. For the next 25 years, he worked closely with Brian Loncar, handling some of the firm’s most high-profile and consequential cases. Together, they achieved many of Loncar Lyon Jenkins’ most significant victories. Eventually, Clay became a part-owner, helping guide the firm’s strategic growth and enduring reputation across Texas.
Professional Leadership
In addition to his work inside the courtroom, Clay has consistently stepped into influential leadership roles within the legal community. Over the years, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Advocates for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Furthermore, he led as President of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association. Undoubtedly, these roles reflect both his strong reputation and the deep trust he has earned among his peers statewide.
Humanitarian Recognition
Clay’s leadership extends beyond legal achievements and into humanitarian impact. For instance, his commitment to social justice drew national attention when Senator Leticia Van de Putte nominated him for The Dallas Morning News’ Texan of the Year. The nomination recognized his compassionate work with unaccompanied, undocumented minors at the Texas border. As a result, his efforts received widespread recognition and helped spotlight the need for legal advocacy in humanitarian crises.
Award for Community Impact
Clay’s passion for service continues to earn him distinguished honors. Most notably, the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association presented him with the Luz Award, which is given annually to one attorney who makes a profound difference in the Latino community. Through consistent advocacy and meaningful outreach, Clay demonstrated an enduring commitment to uplifting underserved populations and promoting equitable legal access for all.
