What is a letter of protection?
A letter of protection is a letter written by a personal injury attorney to a doctor. This letter tells the doctor that his bill will be protected by the lawyer if he treats their injured client but waits until the case is finalized to be paid. If the case is won by settlement or trial, the attorney is then required to use part of the monies received to pay the outstanding bill. If a person is injured in an auto wreck they may not have medical insurance or enough money to pay a doctor for treatment. The letter of protection allows the injured client to get the treatment they need, but can not afford. Once the letter of protection is issued the client can not instruct the lawyer to not pay the doctor at the conclusion of the case. From Attorney Brian Loncar The Strong Arm.
